Another Win!

The Caledonia Thunder Novice Reps are on a bit of a roll. Solid two way play, a commitment to team defense and passing the puck around are all contributing factors to the improvement of the team. With a quick start against Six Nations and a relentless attack the Thunder improved to their record to 6-5-2. Scoring for the Thunder were Richard Goodwin 4G, Riley Gray 2G, Nolan Putt 1G. Matt Macgregor had 2A, Matthew Wetson 1A and Nolan Putt also had 1 helper. The Thunder continued to show great puck control by winning 24 of 26 faceoffs. The strong team defense allowed only three shots to reach Josh Roloson.

Offensive Player of the Game: Richard Goodwin
Defensive Player of the Game: Zachary De Haan

Do you hear that? It's a Thunder storm...Unbeaten in 4!

The Glanbrook Rangers dropped by the HCCC and they soon realized that the Novice Thunder were a focused team. Within the first minute the Thrunder struck...Zach Rogers got things going after a nice passing play from Riley Richards and Craig Stefureak. Glandbrook was unable to stop the relentless attack from the Thunder. Caledonia scored 15 goal on 55 shots for a 15-1 lopsided win. The scoring was spread out among the team. The play that particularly stood out was the amazing puck movement, puck control and the team defense. This was evident from the face wins, 29 of 32. With the win the Thunder improve their record to 5-5-2. Here's a summary of the scoring; Zach Rogers 5G 1A, Richard Goodwin 5G 1A, Jeffrey Armstrong 2G, Craig Stefureak 1G 4A, Riley Gray 1G 1A, Mathew Fletcher 1G 1A, Brendan Roy 3A, Nathan Edwards 3A, Riley Richards 2A, Nolan Putt 1A, Zachary De Haan 1A.

So close...Unbeaten in 3!

Well the Thunder played great in the 1st and 2nd period but it wasn't enough to hold off Waterford. After being up 3-0 heading into the third period, the Thunder had a 5 minute defensive let-down that gave the Wildcats some opportunities to get back into the game and tie it up with 3 minutes remaining in the game. Richard Goodwin and Zach Rogers each had shots ring off the posts in the dying minutes. This one was so close to being a win and all the players knew it in the dressing room. The final score was 3-3. Still it was a another good game by the Thunder. Scoring for the Thunder was, Richard Goodwin with 2 goals and
Riley Gray with 1 goal and 1 assist. Also adding assits were Brendan Roy, Craig Stefureak and Matt Macgregor. Shots were 19 -16 for the Thunder however, they gave up 10 shots in the 3rd period. Zach Rogers, Richard Goodwin, Nolan Putt, Craig Stefureak and Brendan Roy combined to win 28 face offs and while losing only 4. Nice work forwards!

Offensive Player of the Game: Matthew Fletcher
Defensive Player of the Game: Zachary De Haan

Next up tomorrow night...Glanbrook.

Back to Back Wins!

Tuesday night Cayuga dropped by for a taste of the Thunder.
The Caledonia Thunder came out rumbling! The team defense was spectacular. Not only did our defense play great the forwards made a point of coming back to help. The team held Cayuga to only 6 shots on net. Nicely done! Richard "The Jet" Goodwin and Zach "Attack" Rogers came out flying and combined for 8 points. Craig "Bulldog" Stefureak netted a goal aswell. The fine team play could be seen all over the ice as nice break out passes were made from the Defensive zone and on down the ice towards Cayuga's goal. Austin "The puck stops here" Pont put together a solid effort. Special mention should be made for Jeffery "Turbo" Armstrong for being a last minute (literally) call and being a true team player.

Puck possession was another big plus in this game. Total face offs...29...The Thunder forwards won 23 of them. Awesome job!

Offensive Player of the Game: Richard Goodwin
Defensive player(s) of the Game: The entire Defense!

The Caledonia Thunder rolled into Burford Monday night with pay back on their minds. A week earlier Burford beat The Thunder in their home...not a good idea. From the drop of the puck it was a hard fought game that saw Josh "Rolie the goalie" Roloson stop 20 of 22 shots. The was good enough to earn him defensive player of the game. Richard "The Jet" Goodwin had his engine revving as he popped a hat trick and Zach"Attack"Rogers had a strong two way game that helped the team win 3-2.

It was overheard that the coach of Burford said, "Those guys have come along way in a week!"

Offensive Player of the Game: Zach Rogers
Defensive Player of the Game: Josh Roloson

Next up Waterford.

Don't forget that after Saturday's practice (4-5pm) there is a shooting clinic (5-6pm) being put on by the Atom reps.

West Lorne Tournament...A wild one!

Well the Thunder rolled into West Lorne on Friday night and took the Six Nation Allstars by storm! The entire team got into the scoring with some exceptional passing and strong team play. 13-0 was the final. Josh Roloson got the Shutout!

Players of the game vs. Six Nations:
Forward: Nolan Putt
Defense: Mathew MacGregor

After a funfilled Saturday the Thunder had to play a late game 9 pm vs. a local team, Glencoe. Our boys came out flat (no shots in the 1st) and Glenco popped three quick goals on 12 shots. In the second, Riley "The Rocket" Gray got one passed the goalie. In the Third period the Thunder found their legs and started to crank it up! With goals from Richard "The Jet" Goodwin and Zach "Attack" Rogers. Glenco also put one in to keep the lead. Late in the third after a great effort at both ends from the Thunder, Glenco put in an empty net goal to make it 5-3. Austin Pont kept the team in the game with another strong performance in net.

Players of the game vs. Glenco.
Forward: Riley Gray
Defense: Owen Brunell

Much was accomplished during the Tournament and the Caledonia Thunder proved they have what it takes to play as a team and are continuing to improve. A great time was had by all!

Watch out league, there's a storm coming to your town...
and it's full of Thunder!

Next up...Burford.

Let one get away!

Well Tuesday nights game vs. Burford was slow to get going. The Thunder played a solid second period to gain the lead but unfortunately they could not hold on in the third period. Burford were more aggressive getting to the puck and it proved to be a factor. In the third the coaches tried a few new line combinations in an effort to generate some much needed speed and energy but a few good chances was all they could create. Burford scored late in the third to defeat the Thunder 5-4.

Another solid effort was put by Austin in net and that earned him defensive player of the game, while a strong, three period skating performance landed Brendan offensive player of the game.

Up next...Six Nations All Stars at the Black and Gold Tournament in West Lorne.

Remeber to be...FIRST ON THE PUCK!

Tuff Loss

Well after jumping out to a quick 3 goal lead in the first period and playing a solid second, the Thunder's team defence was not strong enough to with stand a 5 goal out burst by Ingersoll. Although we lost the game some very positive signs came out of the game. In the the first period Richard, Nolan and Craig hooked up on brilliant passing play resulting in a goal. All lines were passing much better and looking for the open player. Another solid effort was put in by our goalies and Nathan got his first goal of the season.

A few team stats from the Ingersoll game:

Shots for 25 Shots against 18
Face offs won 23 Face offs lost 3

Both of these stats are big improvements. Good work Thunder!

Two Practices this weekend should help them prepare for Burford on Tuesday and then the Thunder are off to West Lorne for their first Tournament of the Season.

Player(s) of the game vs. Ingersoll: Our Goalies, Josh and Austin.

Remember...Skate hard, play hard and be first on the puck!

Thanks to our Manager Dennis for picking up team water bottles. Water is important to keep your energy up through out the game. Small sips each shift change will keep you feeling strong in all three peroids.

Unbeaten in 3!

BE FIRST ON THE PUCK!
DON'T WATCH IT HAPPEN...MAKE IT HAPPEN!

The Thunder's teamwork is paying off. A hard fought game saw Caledonia and Port Dover finish in a 3-3 tie. With great goaltending from Austin / Josh and solid defence lead by Riley R, the Thunder increased their unbeaten streak to 3 games.

Player of the game vs. Port Dover: #99 Craig Stefureak

Player of the Game vs. Delhi: #9 Richard Goodwin.

Next up...Ingersoll.
Go Thunder Go!

Tip from the team!
Smelly Equipment? Make sure you hang your equipment so it can air dry after each game and practice. Then we can all stop making that face everytime you open your hockey bag. Ahhh Gross!
